Pride of the Saiyans
In the last episode, we watched Gas and Bardock’s long-ago battle. Bardock emerged victorious, revealing Goku’s background. The character of Goku was completely reimagined in this chapter. Goku reminisces about Dragon Ball Zero at the beginning of this chapter. As Frieza is preparing to destroy World Vegeta, we see the narrative of Bardock transferring Goku to another planet.
The two Saiyans get an epiphany after watching the footage from Bardock’s scouter. It’s becoming very evident that the only way to prevail in this battle is by channelling your inner Saiyan. Saiyan pride and the manner Saiyans battle in whatever scenario are discussed with Monaito by the two characters. Goku and Vegeta get their wounds tended to by Monaito as they decide to take matters into their own hands.
Taking on the Gases
Vegeta and Goku meet Gas in the last showdown of their harrowing journey. Even though he’s going to go head-to-head with Gas, Elec first consults with his two siblings to obtain their take on the last fight and the current status of Goku and Vegeta. They explain to their older brother how Vegeta and Goku were able to take on the shape of Granolah while battling one other. Because of Granolah’s victory over the Saiyans, Elec thinks that the Saiyans cannot win.
We watch Vegeta and Goku battling it out with Gas throughout the chapter but to no avail. They do everything they can, but Gas is too strong for them to overcome. When Vegeta summons the God of Destruction energy blast, he and Goku find themselves trapped by Gas’s might. Ending the chapter, Vegeta refuses to fall to the ground, saying that his strength is increasing with each hit he receives from Gas.
What’s in store?
The conflict between Gas and the two Saiyans and the Granolah storyline might come to a close in the following two chapters. But how could they beat the best warrior in the universe? Bardock, on the other hand, was able to defeat Gas by being driven into a corner and then boosting his Saiyan pride to overcome the challenge. In this encounter, the Saiyans will prevail over Gas without the aid of any new transformations other than the pride of the Saiyans.
As a result of this new dynamic, viewers have expressed displeasure. Goku’s character motivation and his prior exploits are retconned and belittled, and the power system of Dragon Ball is also abruptly ruined. As we know, this isn’t the first time Akira Toriyama has tinkered around with the series’ strength scaling. Historically, the strength scaling in Dragon Ball Z and Super has been a source of ire. However, we have high hopes that Toriyama will be able to alter public perceptions of Goku in some way.
