The human species has been frozen in stone for 3,700 years until Senku Ishigami, a 15-year-old genius, is revived in April 5738 and finds himself in a world devoid of any evidence of human civilisation.
People who go out on a quest to explore the petrified humanity in the hopes of learning more about its origins and a cure are protagonists in this novel. It was six months after the death of Taiju Oki that Senku and Taiju were resurrected by nitric acid. As a result of this finding, they are able to create a chemical that allows them to instantaneously revive humans. Tsukasa Shishi and Yuzuriha Ogawa, Taiju’s crush and their classmate, are brought back to life by the two underage students in an endeavour to reestablish society with an emphasis on science.
The truth is that Senku is right in thinking that a new scientific society should be established because the old world was contaminated and should not be revived, but Tsukasa is wrong to believe such. When confronted with grownups who are scared of him, he goes so far as to kill them in order to keep them from interfering with his plans. It is shown that the scientist is able to create weapons that he is powerless to fight as Tsukasa comes to kill him.
Following the death of Senku, Tsukasa decides to form his own faction in the Stone World, believing that he has done so.
