A Call of Duty job posting suggests that the game will eventually be available only via subscription

A recent Activision job offering suggests that the Call of Duty series may soon be receiving subscription-based content. In recent years, Activision Blizzard has taken advantage of the popularity of Call of Duty Mobile and Warzone to diversify its product line. For Android and iOS devices, TiMi Studios released the mobile game in the fall of 2019. Next, Warzone was released in March 2020; it was free to play on consoles and PCs by April of 2021, with a stunning 100 million users. And of course, the mainstream series doesn’t let up on its responsibilities, either.

There has been a steady rise in sales for both Calls of Duty: Vanguard and Black Ops: Cold War. For example, in February, Vanguard and Black Ops Cold War were 6th and 15th on the US best-seller list, respectively. Whether or not Activision releases a Call of Duty game in 2022, each of these titles will likely be a regular on the charts for the rest of the year. A job posting on Activision’s Careers page found by Twitter user CharlieIntel indicates a subscription-based future for the Call of Duty franchise.

Activision is searching for a manager and influencer marketing manager in Santa Monica, California, who will play a vital role in the development of “CoD 2.0.” The “amazing array of advances in tailored player experiences, multi-platform gameplay, subscription-based content, mobile game creation and a drive to always-on community and player connectedness” would supposedly usher in the “2.0” era for the brand in 2022, according to reports. It’s possible that Call of Duty’s subscription-based content may debut this year, based on the job description.

At this point, we don’t know how it will look, but it seems like there will be plenty of new COD experiences to enjoy over the next several months. Furthermore, a recent report suggested that three previous Call of Duty games may be remastered. Another COD 4: Modern Warfare Remastered version is rumoured to be in the works for the Nintendo Switch. All of this information began circulating after a Bloomberg article said that Activision will not release a mainstream Call of Duty game this Christmas season. Claims that there would not be any further premium releases in the series have subsequently been disproved by the publisher. Fans of Activision’s best-selling military shooter IP don’t have to worry about what the future holds. The publisher has a tonne of new content planned.
