A Pokémon Sword and Shield revelation surprised people in how it explains the titles of the games and DLC. Pokémon Sword and Shield was how the eighth generation of Pokémon started, and 2022 will soon witness the introduction of the ninth generation. The eighth-generation had its share of ups and downs with its mainstream releases, with Pokémon Legends: Arceus being particularly favourably regarded by many fans. The base game of Pokémon Sword and Shield was fraught with controversy prior to its release owing to the cut of the national dex.
Following the original game, the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLC was released, which each featured a new wild location to explore packed with returning Pokémon that weren’t in the base game. The Crown Tundra also included numerous new varieties and legendary Pokémon. Both DLC packs were largely better received than the basic game owing to the quantity of extra content offered. A post from Reddit user Renelie89 illustrates the reason why the games are titled the way they are on the statue showing the hero of Galar. The apparent observation is that hero is clutching a sword and a shield, but the picture also points out the fact that he is clothed in armour and wearing a crown might be why the DLC packs are dubbed the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra.
All of which are instruments befitting that of a knight. The reaction to this announcement leaves fans in the comments stunned and confused. The newest generation of Pokémon was just introduced when Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were officially shown. From the first clip, it appears as though these games will draw some inspiration from Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are billed to be “open-world” games, but how much of an open-world the games will really offer remains to be seen. Not much about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is known from its initial trailer. Not its gaming style, not the legendaries, and not the rationale behind the names of these titles.
Mascot legendaries are normally shown with the first display of a new mainline Pokémon game, so not seeing them straight away is extremely odd. But the three new Pokémon starters unveiled in the teaser have acquired a popularity for their looks, and the starters together with the location being in Spain might perhaps be a signal for the game’s general theming. Pokémon has gone through various different sorts of naming techniques over the generations such as letters, colours, gems, and items. What theme Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have to offer will remain to be seen in due time.
