For a limited time, modder and Patreon user Otis Inf has made his Elden Ring Photo Mode mod available for free on PC. Aside from the Photo Mode in the Demon’s Souls remake, Souls games normally lack built-in screenshot creation and editing facilities. The alternate usage of this mode as a stop screen in Demon’s Souls explains why FromSoftware avoids such features in their famously difficult titles. Photo Modes have long been on PCs and even found traction on consoles with titles such as Gran Turismo 4 for the PlayStation 2. However, it was perhaps InFamous: Second Son on PS4 that fully unleashed the power of game mode, owing in large part to Sony’s foresight in including a ‘Share’ button on its DualShock 4 controller.
Most major versions now include picture editing features to some extent, with some incarnations of the mode proving significantly more complex than others. The Photo Mode in Ghost of Tsushima established a very high standard that has yet to be surpassed. However, sometimes the very minimum is all that is required, particularly when it comes to portraying the splendour of breathtaking open worlds like Elden Ring. According to Wccftech, modder Otis Inf created an Elden Ring Photo Mode mod that will be available for free on their Patreon page until Thursday, March 10.
The mod includes picture editing capabilities such as HUD toggling, frameskip, FOV control, vignette removal, Chromatic Aberration Correction, and control over the direction of the sunlight. According to Otis Inf’s Patreon post, the latter serves as a “pseudo Time of Day” option. When compared to popular Photo Modes in games, the offered settings appear relatively elementary. It’s worth noting, though, that this fan-made masterpiece began without a foundation, which makes Otis Inf’s work all the more astounding.
At the very least, PC users now have access to a useful collection of screenshot editing tools. However, like with previous Elden Ring mods, players should be aware that activating the mod would need disabling the RPG’s anti-cheat mechanism. After a pretty extended wait, Elden Ring was released for PC, last-gen, and current-gen consoles one week ago. Finally, the wait was worthwhile, as proven by the title’s widespread acclaim from critics. Despite having more than its fair share of technical faults, it’s evident that gamers have found much to like in the newest FromSoftware opus.
