Matthew Mercer, the game master of Critical Role, will lead a one-shot Elden Ring adventure in the Lands Between tonight. Even though FromSoftware’s latest open-world title has only been released for a few days, both critical acclaim and sales numbers have already broken records. FromSoftware’s best-reviewed game, Elden Ring, debuted before its official international release, and that just added to the excitement that resulted in smashing Steam records the day before its official launch. While a few devoted players have already completed it, the vast majority of gamers are only beginning their journey through the gigantic game.
More than four days of uninterrupted gameplay were completed by one streamer. Even though Elden Ring has been out for a while, the buzz around it lingers, and a Dungeons & Dragons tie-in tonight might add fuel to the fire. At 7 p.m. PST on March 1, the popular web series Critical Role will feature a sponsored Elden Ring one-shot. It will be the show’s longtime game master, Matthew Mercer, who will run the solo RPG adventure based on Elden Ring, the game that George R. R. Martin helped create, and the players will include the show’s regulars Marisha Ray and Sam Riegel, as well as experienced role-players Krystina Arielle, Brennan Lee Mulligan and Alexander Ward.
Mercer showed off an Elden Ring promotional box he received from Bandai Namco before the event, which included a sword among other things. The first season of The Legend of Vox Machina released its final three episodes just one week before Elden Ring’s launch in Critical Role. As a result of the web series’ Kickstarter smashing records, it was subsequently picked up by Amazon Prime as a series rather than just a one-off animated special.
Like Elden Ring, The Legend of Vox Machina had an overwhelmingly good response from reviewers. For fantasy fans, it’s a great moment to be alive because of such high-quality offerings as The Legend of Vox Machina and Elden Ring. The success of these two wildly different projects so close to one other shows that there is a raising need for more diversified content in the category. Keeping this in mind, it will be fascinating to observe how Elden Ring’s Critical Role spin plays out.
