Chrono Cross and Radical Dreamers, two classic Square Enix games, are being updated for current platforms and offered together for the first time. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, which will be released on April 7 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, is a Chrono Cross remaster that was previously rumoured to be coming to PlayStation consoles. Chrono Trigger’s sequels include Chrono Cross and Radical Dreamers. The creators decided to make two successors to Chrono Trigger.
As a visual novel and adventure game, Radical Dreamers was launched on the Satellaview, a Japan-exclusive SNES add-on. Chrono Cross, the PlayStation 1 game that included many of the concepts and ideas from Radical Dreamers, was inspired in part by Radical Dreamers. However, this game was localised in English despite never being distributed in Europe. In the February 2022 Nintendo Direct, it was announced that Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition will be released on April 7.
New artwork and character redesigns by Nobuteru Yuuki were revealed, as was the fact that composer Yasunori Mitsuda improved the game’s music and converted the 3D models to HD. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, like other Square Enix remasters, has features like auto-battle and the ability to disable random bouts. Alternatively, you may use the original Chrono Cross graphics. The official Nintendo YouTube Channel has a trailer for Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition. For the first time ever, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition includes the official North American release of Radical Dreamers.
Square Enix fans are in for a treat, as it was previously thought that Radical Dreamers would never be released in the United States. A mysterious artefact known as the Frozen Flame is sought after by three crooks named Serge, Kid, and Magil in the film Radical Dreamers. There is a longer version of this short narrative in Chrono Cross, in which Serge traverses several realms to discover the truth behind the strange death of one of the Chrono Trigger protagonists. JRPG fans rejoiced at the February 2022 Nintendo Direct, which saw some of Square Enix’s best SNES/PS1-era titles being resurrected on modern systems.
The only concern now is if Chrono Trigger will also be remastered, given it is still unavailable on contemporary systems. It’s about time that Square Enix brought back the Chrono Trigger series, and the success of Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition may be an impetus for them to do so.
