In Rick And Morty, a skilled Animal Crossing player recreated the garage laboratory of Rick Sanchez. This long-running Adult Swim comedy about a crazy scientist and his unfortunate grandson is known for its many tie-in video games, including commercials for Death Stranding and the PlayStation 5 platform.
When Season 2 of Fortnite’s alien invasion came around, the titular couple appeared as playable guest characters, providing their scientific skills to the islanders. Since the debut of Animal Crossing: New Horizons in 2020, enthusiasts have been utilising the game’s extensive range of character and island customization capabilities to pay homage to their favourite games, movies, and television shows. The Simpsons’ Kwik-e-Mart and Alice in Wonderland’s twisting woodland have both been used as inspiration. Recently, Reddit user amburroni shared a screenshot of their faithful recreation of the Smiths’ garage from Rick and Morty.
This replica of Rick’s laundry room-turned-science lab has many of the show’s little touches, like the bulletin board, bookcases, and even a robotic arm in the room’s lower-left corner. One of Rick’s most emotionally intense on-screen scenes is even reenacted by an Animal Crossing Villager version of him, who is shown sobbing in the lab after his break-up with the hive-mind After “Auto Erotic Assimilation” towards the end of Season 2. Amburroni supplied a screenshot of Rick’s garage from this episode to compare to their Animal Crossing version. This isn’t the first time Animal Crossing and well-known franchises or media figures have worked together. T-Pain and Danny Trejo have shared their own unique Animal Crossing islands with the world via social media.
Brie Larson, the star of Captain Marvel, has admitted that her time spent playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf encouraged her to learn how to cook. Adult Swim returned the favour by posting a bizarre crossover video between Rick And Morty and Animal Crossing just before the show’s fifth season premiered last year. Animal Crossing gamers had already constructed Rick’s garage in-game.
As for the Smith garage from Rick And Morty, amburroni’s reproduction of the makeshift lab that so many classic Rick and Morty adventures begin in is a very decent duplicate of Rick’s iconic workplace, including even the tiniest details. Nothing but the wildest adventures await the grandfather-grandson combination in the vibrant world of Animal Crossing, where it appears that only the player’s wildest dreams govern what old-school TV places and characters may make an appearance.
