Last week’s episode revealed Eren’s talent and revealed the truth behind their father Grisha’s actions to Zeke. Our entire review of last week’s programme may be found here. A brief overview is provided below. Zeke guided Eren through their father Grisha’s recollections. Instead of the expected scenario of Eren being indoctrinated by Grisha, Zeke discovered that Grisha had learnt from his errors and treated Eren differently as a child than he had handled Zeke. In truth, Eren has always wanted freedom and battled against his captors since the day he was born. Eren is opposing Zeke’s idea because he disagrees with it, not because of his father’s influence.
We also found that Grisha could see Zeke and Eren visiting him in his dreams. This is because Attack Titans may view snippets of their future successor’s memories, whereas Founding Titans (and others) can delve into the memories of their predecessor. (Founding Titans have greater power than this, although all Titans can peer into the memories of their predecessors to some level.)
Eren was able to utilise the Founding Titan’s power, which Zeke had unlocked, to peer into his father’s memories (which his father could then see by peering into Eren’s future memories) and persuade him to go forward with the plan to terminate the Reiss family line and claim the Founding Titan. We also learnt that the Founding Titan swore a vow against war because he feels that ALL Eldians should be punished and tormented for the rest of their lives for their early crimes against humanity.
Grisha was devastated by the fact that he had to kill the Reiss family, including the children. Grisha informs Zeke that Eren will win from now on. And he sobs freely while cuddling Zeke and tells him how much he loves him. He can see Zeke since he is recalling Eren’s visit to him with Zeke. And it is via that recollection that he apologises to Zeke for all he has done wrong. “I saw Eren’s recollections of what was to come… “But I had no idea it would be so bad,” he admits. And, as he hugs Zeke, he pleads, “Please, Eren, stop.”
