Rockstar Games has finally revealed information about Grand Theft Auto 5’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platform enhancements. GTA 5’s PS5 gameplay trailer received mixed reviews, but there is some interest in what the game will look like when it launches on the next generation of consoles. Even though the game has been around for over a decade, it is beginning to show its age, and an update to improve its graphics and speed is long overdue. It was almost two years ago during Sony’s PS5 announcement event when Rockstar Games revealed their intentions for the current-generation version of GTA 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online.
The teaser trailer gave a glimpse of the upgraded aesthetics and promised a 2021 release date. A November 11, 2021 release date was then assigned to the new-generation port by Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive. However, release plans were finally pushed out to March 2022. GTA 5’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X releases were expected to be further delayed. Grand Theft Auto 5’s release date is March 2022 has not changed, which is good news for those who are looking forward to the new features. On Tuesday, March 15, Rockstar Games will release the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Grand Theft Auto V.
In addition, Rockstar Games explains in its blog post what the changes actually involve. To take advantage of the latest hardware, GTA 5 and GTA Online gamers can look forward to new graphics settings that enable 4K graphics and up to 60fps performance, as well as HDR choices, ray-tracing technology, increased draw distances, improved textures, and shorter loading times.
The studio also confirmed that the DualSense controller for the PS5 supports 3D audio and platform-specific features like haptic feedback. Grand Theft Auto 5’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S improvements were previously rumoured to be delayed for a second time, but the March release date means players can now add another high-profile experience to the already crowded Q1 releases for 2022. GTA 5 and GTA Online’s progress will be transferrable across generations for a one-time migration chance at launch, thus it’s probable that GTA will take precedence for some. Rockstar Games has announced a slew of other intriguing details as well.
The company also revealed that GTA 6 is now inactive production after years of rumours and false leaks. For the time being, Rockstar has only provided a few details, but the company has promised to provide additional information as soon as possible. Nobody knows when that will be, but for GTA fans, the future seems promising.
