This year, Capcom and Armature Studio announced that Resident Evil 4 VR will receive a free update that will bring the Mercenaries mode to the title for the first time. For the first time since its debut in October 2021, the iconic Resident Evil 4 survival horror game has been brought to life in virtual reality.
Censorship and removal of offensive dialogue, as well as inappropriate animations involving Ashley Graham, were implemented in Resident Evil 4 VR, despite the game’s gameplay remaining largely unchanged from 2005’s original version and HD updates. A famous mini-game from Resident Evil 4, the Mercenaries mode, was initially featured in the third instalment of the Resident Evil series. Several well-known characters from the series have their own abilities, weapons, equipment, and melee attacks throughout the game’s separate stages.
The play revolves around Time Attack Mode, in which the goal is to rack up the most points by killing as many enemies as possible before the clock runs out. It wasn’t until nearly a decade later, in Resident Evil: Village, that mercenaries mode returned to the series. Because the game is played from a first-person perspective, the Mercenaries mode in Village reintroduces some of the game’s classic arcade features while also making significant changes to the gameplay mechanics. Virtual reality company Oculus said that Capcom and Armature Studio are intending to bring The Mercenaries to Resident Evil 4 VR sometime in 2022, which would allow first-person gamers to take on the game mode for the first time with all of its prior features, according to TechRadar.
In addition, the first post-launch update for Resident Evil 4 VR is being released today, and it includes new usability and gameplay features. Adjustable waist and chest holders, the ability to select different colours for the laser sight, reloading options and save upgrades are just some of the new features that have been included to make the game more enjoyable. Resident Evil 4 VR is a reimagining of the classic survival horror game that puts players in the first-person perspective and recreates many of the game’s iconic moments and gameplay mechanics.
Just a few weeks after its initial release, it immediately rose to the top of the Oculus Quest’s charts in terms of both user ratings and sales, earning nominations for The Game Awards’ Best VR Game award in 2021. As in Time-Attack arcade game modes, Resident Evil 4’s Mercenaries mode is extremely fast-paced, necessitating players to dash around and kill as many zombies as possible while collecting time extension pickups and trying to stay alive through movement.
To make the Mercenaries mode more suitable for VR, Resident Evil 4 VR’s difficulty and mechanics may need to be drastically altered. In the meanwhile, gamers may look forward to the Mercenaries VR mode, which will keep them occupied while they wait for Resident Evil 4’s next-generation remake announcement.
