Cryptic Kings 3 maker Paradox Interactive has revealed that their upcoming update will include official same-sex marriage. So, if you’ve been looking for a way to relieve some of the tension of playing Crusader Kings 3’s modded-in fishing game, you’ll soon have another alternative. To an already well-liked game, this should be a pleasant addition.
Crusader Kings 3 allows for same-sex partnerships, although no same-sex marriages have occurred thus far.
Instead of marriage, modders had to make do with same-sex concubines because they couldn’t fully integrate it. While the same-sex concubine mod was still available in March of 2021, an official update to the game broke a feature that it was based on, making that impossible. In June 2021, Paradox Interactive released support for same-sex concubine mods and plans to provide support for same-sex marriage mods. The company quickly clarified that this was not its intention. According to Rock Paper Shotgun, Paradox Interactive has gone one step further and added official support for same-sex marriage in the game itself, rather than just allowing for it through mods.
Crusader Kings 3 players who don’t utilise mods will still be able to marry others who share their gender. According to Paradox Interactive, the company’s AI has been changed to reflect this change, and the game now fully supports and honours same-sex marriage. Because it’s now mod support, Paradox Interactive is giving fans more discretion in deciding how to use the new capabilities, allowing users to apply same-sex marriage in new cultures or to existing categories. Fallout 2 was the first game to feature same-sex romance and marriage in 1998, and as the LGBTQ+ community grows, more content is being added to let gamers experience a game that is authentic to them.
Although the level of detail presented in these romance options differs from game to game—The Sims, for example, is less in-depth than an RPG like Dragon Age—having the option makes games a little more realistic. It’s also worth noting that marriage is only one of the many ways players can employ to further their political objectives in a game like Crusader Kings 3. The 1.5 update for Crusader Kings 3 includes same-sex marriage, which will be released at the same time as the delayed expansion, Royal Court. As a result, more fans will have the opportunity to witness themselves in a game they love being played. The industry as a whole is making a concerted effort to become more welcoming to everyone, making the business stronger as a result.
