It has been stated that gamers who purchase the Steam version of Hitman 3 will be eligible for free upgrades, an attempt to make up for the game’s shaky start on Valve’s marketplace. When Hitman 3 launched on Steam last week, it introduced PC gamers to virtual reality (VR) mode, with further features expected to be added in 2022.
Players’ reviews were slammed for the game’s shoddy and unworkable VR mode, as well as the game’s high price tag, despite the game being more than a year old at the time of its release. As of 2021, IO Interactive released its first self-published title after parting from Square Enix: the third instalment in the Hitman Trilogy. IO Interactive said shortly after the game’s original release that Hitman 3 had sold 300 per cent more copies digitally than the prior entry in the series. Despite the Epic Store’s controversial exclusivity policy, these significant sales were achieved.
As a result of the positive reception Hitman 3 received from critics, the team felt compelled to develop additional material to celebrate the game’s many milestones. Post-launch support has extended the life of the game, and Year 2 is planned to extend Hitman 3’s existence with extra content for long-time fans of the stealth series. IO Interactive has provided free Steam upgrades for Hitman 3 players due to the title’s Steam launch falling short of expectations, as revealed on Twitter. Those who pre-order Hitman 3 through February 19 will be eligible for an upgrade, depending on the version they select.
While the Deluxe Edition or the Hitman Trilogy includes the Seven Deadly Sins DLC Collection with seven individual expansions, the Standard Edition of Hitman 3 will get a free upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, which comes with the Deluxe Pack. While the pricing of Hitman 3 on Steam looks to be the main issue, the majority of player concerns revolve around the game’s new virtual reality component.
The most common complaint about this mode is that it is unplayable in its current condition due to poor implementation. Surprisingly, a malfunction in Hitman 3’s VR mode proved this theory with the ability for players to instantly kill NPCs by aggressively wriggling them. It’s unclear when IO Interactive will deliver patches to solve Hitman 3’s VR feature, as no notification has been made. As one of the best games of 2021, Hitman 3’s poor Steam launch due to a sudden shift in the game’s fanbase comes as a surprise.
Although the game’s debut has been plagued by troubles, IO Interactive appears to have accepted the game’s shortcomings and is now offering gamers an apology package that they may redeem as a free upgrade. Players who wish to participate in the upgrading campaign must do so before February 19th.
