Players will be taken to a previously unseen region of Tamriel as Bethesda Softworks and ZeniMax Online Studios introduce The Elder Scrolls Online’s new High Isle setting from the Legacy of the Bretons year-long adventure. The worlds of Morrowind, Cyrodiil, and Skyrim have all been explored in the mainline Elder Scrolls games.
The Elder Scrolls Online has given players access to places like The Far Shores, Shadow Wood, and The Five Finger Dance that was previously only hinted at in single-player games. Aside from High Rock, Valenwood, Elsweyr, the Black Marsh, and Summerset Isle, The Elder Scrolls: Arena’s huge map contained High Rock, Valenwood, Elsweyr, the Black Marsh, and Summerset Isle, but The Elder. There are new realms of Oblivion like Coldharbour and The Refuge of Dread to discover in the MMO as well. It was not available in the main game, but ESO has consistently released new chapters that include additional locales, features, and dynamics to the overall gaming experience.
This expansion brought back dragons, the Necromancer class, and a new companion system to Elder Scrolls Online. Each of these DLCs has added additional areas of Tamriel to the game’s playable area. Bethesda Softworks revealed the new High Isle environment for The Elder Scrolls Online’s latest year-long adventure during the 2022 Global Reveal webcast. It begins with the upcoming Ascending Tide DLC and continues with the release of High Isle, which is available for pre-purchase on the Xbox Store beginning January 27.
There is a June 6 PC release date, and a June 21 console release date for The High Isle. The Bretons’ homeland, the High Isle, is described by the game’s creators as “an island paradise steeped in mediaeval culture and architecture” where “ruthlessness is a virtue.” The Systres Archipelago, which includes the High Isle, is a relatively untouched section of Tamriel. Ember and Isobel join the party in the High Isle chapter, as well as a new card game called Tales of Tribute. Four significant content upgrades will be released in 2022 for The Elder Scrolls Online, each focused on the Breton race and the political intrigue on the High Isle.
This DLC will be more story-driven than many of ESO’s other DLC packs, as the Three Banners War peace talks begin. Like Skyrim, the Systres Archipelago and High Isle draw inspiration from the Mediterranean and Medieval England, as ESO’s art director CJ Gregg recently pointed out in a blog post. A Khajiit and a Breton knight will be available as prospective companions on High Isle, further enhancing ESO’s companion system. A new card game, Tales of Tribute, has been introduced by the High Isle chapter. NPCs around the world will be available for players to battle, with some battles even progressing the storyline. The Bretons’ homeland of High Isle is currently a mystery, but that will change very soon thanks to The Elder Scrolls Online.
