Satoru Mikami, a thirtysomething corporate executive who lives alone yet is entirely pleased with his condition, is the subject of the show. His life takes an unexpected turn when he passes away as a result of his injuries sustained in a stabbing incident. Satoru receives a succession of directives as he dies but is unable to interpret them. He is taken aback, however, when he regains consciousness and realises that he has been resurrected in an unfamiliar realm.
