Server disruptions in Halo Infinite have lost players time on their Double XP bonuses, but reimbursements do not appear to be on the way. One way to gain cosmetics in Halo Infinite is through the game’s battle pass system. Playing games and accomplishing challenges will award varying amounts of XP, which will then level up the battle pass and reward in-game items that correspond with the level. Some have criticised Halo Infinite’s battle pass progression, claiming that the original system did not provide enough options of collecting XP. Though 343 has made certain adjustments, such as providing XP from multiplayer gameplay and challenges, several gamers have requested that the developers also include performance-based XP, which is scheduled to be introduced soon. The microtransaction system is another source of discontent among Halo Infinite’s user base. As of season one, the only way to gain Credits is to buy them with real-world money.
Cosmetics, XP boosters, and other in-game products are now behind a paywall. While this may be aggravating on its own, several players have pointed out that microtransactions are especially costly. One fan calculated that buying all of Halo’s Season 1 in-game goods would cost $1,000. 343 has vowed to modify the game’s microtransactions, and has just announced that beginning with season 2, users will be able to earn Credits through gameplay in Halo Infinite. Server failures have also occurred in Halo Infinite, which is to be expected for a new title, however these interruptions have cost some players time on their XP bonuses. It appears that 343 Industries is also unwilling to issue refunds.
During the most recent server downtime, Reddit user murder inc1776 (via PCGamesN) contacted Halo Support and provided proof of “complete Double XP loss.” Before closing the ticket, the person stated that “we do not have the capacity to grant or restore the XP boosts you’ve lost during the severe outage.” In Halo Infinite, double XP helps with battle pass progression by awarding additional XP for each completed challenge and multiplayer match. Although the way Double XP works has been criticised, it is a useful weapon for levelling up Halo Infinite’s premium battle pass. Double XP is only available for a limited time, however the clock does not stop ticking throughout matches.
Because all XP increases are dependent on real-world time, time spent in the lobby and loading screens is wasted. As was the case with murder inc1776, server interruptions cost players crucial XP boost time. Because XP boosters are a premium in-game item obtained via the battle pass, losing time on one might be aggravating. 343 Industries has not responded to the problem of lost XP boosts, neither confirming nor denying that gamers would be compensated. However, as explained by the support representative, this is not done on an individual basis. Grinding the battle pass in Halo Infinite is a challenging task to begin with, and losing valuable Double XP can make it even more difficult. Perhaps 343 will ultimately fix the problem across the board, but for the time being, players will have to make due without a refund.
