With the publication of a new trailer and poster, Overlord has now officially announced the release date for the anime’s fourth season! Even though the third season of Ains Ooal Gown came to an end in 2018, with a tease of what would be coming next for the anime as it adapts more of Kugane Maruyama and so-original bin’s light novel series, it wasn’t until this year that a fourth season of the anime was officially confirmed to be in the works. The fourth season of the anime will air in 2019. When Overlord was confirmed to be returning for a fourth season as well as a new movie earlier this spring, fans were overjoyed.
The status of this new movie project is currently unknown, but fans of Overlord received a major update when it was announced that the anime series would return for a fourth season early next year, which is a tremendous relief to the series’ fans. Unfortunately, there isn’t a specific release date set apart from the series’ nebulous 2022 release window, but to commemorate the occasion, the series has published a new trailer and poster for the upcoming season of the show.
At Studio Madhouse, returning from prior seasons of work will be director Naoyuki Itou, series writer Yukie Sagawara, and character designer Satpshi Tasaki, all of whom worked on previous seasons of the anime series. Several returning cast members have also been confirmed for the fourth season, including Satoshi Hino as Ains Ooal Gown, Yumi Hara as Albedo, Sumire Uesaka as Shalltear, Emiri Kato as Aura, Yumi Uchiyama as Mare, Masayuki Katou as Demiurge, and Kenta Miyake as Cocytus, all of whom were confirmed with the initial announcement of the new season.
It hasn’t been confirmed directly (aside from glimpses of some of the new characters in the trailer), but given how the third season of the anime adapted materials from Volumes 7-9 of the original light novels and how the upcoming movie has been confirmed to be taking on the Holy Kingdom arc from Volume 12, it’s likely that Season 4 will be adapting materials from Volumes 10 and 11 of the original light novels. In terms of the new movie, there has been no official word on when it will be released, other than the earlier confirmation that it will be released sometime after the fourth season of the show is eventually broadcast on television.
