An Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan and self-proclaimed artist recently shared a pixel animation featuring the Able Sisters apparel store. Animal Crossing: New Horizons and its endearing cast of NPCs and other lovely villagers have inspired innumerable fan art homages, with many bringing the game’s most popular themes to life in a range of engaging graphics.
The Able Sisters is a clothing store featured throughout the Animal Crossing series that caters to the community’s fashion needs. The shop is managed by ACNH NPC sisters Sable and Mabel, with the latter being the more extroverted and sociable of the two. Sable, on the other hand, is a very accomplished seamstress who adores giving players new sets of patterned fabric if they befriend her; she can be found silently working in the rear of the store while Mabel chats with the perusing customers. A creative and talented Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan recently shared a piece of their work: a pixel animation of the Able Sisters apparel store. The creator, Reddit user gejopixelart, impressively places Mabel and Sable in the age of the original Game Boy machine with their graphics work. The animation depicts Sable busy sewing on her sewing machine in the background, while Mabel addresses the spectator via a text box below. Mabel declares, “Howdy! Welcome to the Able Sisters’ handmade-fashion house.” Particularly the text box evokes memories of older portable consoles, especially with the floating arrow at the end of the phrase.
The Animal Crossing series, which premiered in 2001 on the Nintendo GameCube, does not have an official Game Boy port. Having said that, the first Animal Crossing installment has the Able Sisters apparel shop, which marks Sable and Mabel’s series debut (appropriately, in the series’ inaugural game). As a result, the Able sisters have become crucial to the franchise’s gameplay and stories; and with the seemingly endless customization options accessible to players in the current series chapter, New Horizons, the shop’s mechanics and features continue to expand.
Not only does pixel animation add a new dimension to a current-generation game, but it also serves as a reminder of how far video games have come. Although Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the Able Sisters are no longer rendered in less-than-stellar 3D visuals (New Horizons is an especially lovely and detailed game), a pixelated version of the social simulation game would be just as enjoyable as its more recent installments.
