New official information about Star Wars Eclipse says that the game will have multiple playable characters, a branching narrative, and new planets that have never been seen in the sci-fi universe. Quantic Dream has given us a little idea of what Star Wars Eclipse will be like, but we don’t know much about it yet. It’s a little weird that this game is coming from a company that’s mostly known for making games like “Telltale” movies.
During the Game Awards, Quantic Dream showed off a trailer for Star Wars Eclipse. It showed off the High Republic era, Yoda, and a darker tone. How the game will be set up is still unknown, but it sounds like this will be one of the more ambitious Star Wars games in recent years. The eclipse will be the first story outside of the books to fully explore the High Republic era, which means the developer has been given the job of imagining what this part of the universe looks like.
There are also some new details from the official Star Wars Eclipse website that give us a better idea of how Quantic Dream is going to be making the game, too. Quantic Dream has already been said to be taking a more traditional approach to Star Wars Eclipse’s gameplay, but that doesn’t mean the company is giving up its tried and true way of telling stories. The website says that the game will have a lot of different characters that each have their own “morality, personality, motivations, and stories.” As with the other Star Wars movies, Eclipse is going to have new species and planets that are “rife with opportunity and political tensions” that could change the way peace is made.
It’s not clear if this means Quantic Dream will try to make a game like Knights of the Old Republic, where you can play with a lot of different people. Because this is a Star Wars video game, it’s not clear how many characters the developer will use to weave in and out of a bigger, connected story. When Star Wars Eclipse comes out, it will be a while before fans find out.
People who work for Disney and Lucasfilm are known to have a lot of power over the Star Wars universe, so it’s not clear how Star Wars Eclipse’s different stories will fit into the canon. A definitive ending may happen, but it’s still not clear what that will mean for the rest of the show. People have been waiting a long time for a Star Wars game like this since EA took over the series about a decade ago.
