Nightingale, a shared world survival crafting game from Inflexion Games, was unveiled at The Game Awards 2021. Aaryn Flynn, who previously worked on iconic BioWare titles such as Mass Effect 3 and Anthem, leads the indie studio, which includes several other ex-BioWare devs. While BioWare recently promised Mass Effect 4 as a continuation of the epic sci-fi narrative, Flynn has now brought Nightingale to life as CEO of Inflexion Games.
Despite creating some of the gaming industry’s most popular games, BioWare has lost several important developers in recent years. Following a trip to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, BioWare launched a unique cosmic quest with Mass Effect in 2007. The epic interstellar adventure was followed by two sequels, with players transferring their save data to create a large and unified tale in which their choices mattered. Meanwhile, the Dragon Age series immersed players in a bleak fantasy world as they fought off an onslaught of demonic Darkspawn. However, Anthem, released in 2019, was widely condemned, and Anthem’s director left BioWare in March 2021, as part of a long succession of departures.
Nightingale, which was announced by Inflexion Games during The Game Awards, would transport players to a shared-world labyrinth where they must explore and survive in a hazardous environment. The game, which will be Inflexion Games’ first offering, will have a broad array of open-world areas to explore as well as different tools and weapons to construct. The shared-world format of Nightingale will allow players to play single or in groups, with cooperative groups able to conquer difficulties together. The grandiose fantasy project will be released on PC in early access in 2022, with playtesting slated to commence in the coming months.
While several ex-BioWare workers work on Nightingale, the renowned role-playing game studio continues to build its successful brands. The developer recently announced progress on Dragon Age 4, with more details on the fantasy series’ next instalment scheduled to be unveiled next year. Dragon Age: Inquisition, the previous instalment in the series, was released in 2014 and introduced new improvements in character development and combat. The second instalment of the epic adventure promises to continue the series’ ongoing narrative, with Solas reprising his role as the heavenly deity the Dread Wolf.
Nightingale intends to capitalise on its BioWare legacy by providing players with a large and one-of-a-kind new world to explore. The title’s shared world and survival crafting mechanics, on the other hand, promise to create a unique experience as players collaborate and engage directly with the game’s settings. The unveiling of Nightingale at The Game Awards 2021, led by BioWare General Manager Aaryn Flynn, will no doubt excite lovers of both multiplayer role-playing games and in-depth survival titles.
