The Game Awards 2021 have provided fans with a new glimpse at The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, with a new teaser trailer hinting at the character’s difficulties. LOTR: Gollum was revealed by developer Daedalic Entertainment in March 2019, promising a new experience in the vast Middle Earth universe focused on one of its most fascinating characters. It will forsake the action included in other notable Lord of the Rings games, such as Shadow of Mordor, in favour of stealth elements more suited to Gollum’s persona.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was recently in the spotlight during this year’s Nacon Connect, which aired in July and focused on the titular figure in greater detail. Daedalic also provided viewers with peeks of other in-game locations, including Mirkwood and the Mines of Moria. Gandalf and Thranduil the Elvenking both made appearances in the LOTR: Gollum video, leaving many fans yearning for more ahead of the game’s highly anticipated release.
The latest LOTR: Gollum trailer from Daedalic Entertainment showcases several of the game’s locations, emphasising the perilous nature of Middle-Earth. Additionally, the teaser hints at the conflict between Gollum’s dual personalities: Sméagol and Gollum. As hinted at in the new footage, the character’s duality is an ongoing issue that is likely to infect both the game’s storey and gameplay. Gollum’s two personalities interact in a manner akin to Peter Jackson’s portrayal in The Lord of the Rings films, with Sméagol attempting to reason with Gollum.
Daedalic had intended to release The Lord of the Rings: Gollum this year, however, the game was postponed to allow for additional production time and to satisfy user expectations. While delays are frequently seen unfavourably, fans have had varied reactions to earlier previews and gameplay, with some questioning the studio’s cartoon-like design for the popular figure. While Daedlic has yet to announce a precise release date, the company appears content to remain with the 2022 release window indicated in the most recent video.
Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be the first video game to feature Gollum, which has many fans excited. Players may anticipate traversing locales throughout Middle-Earth as the character, who will employ stealth and parkour moves, both of which have been underutilised in previous LOTR-themed games. While Gollum’s attendance at the TGA was previously mentioned, the latest teaser adds another layer of excitement to the game and its impending release.
