One Punch Man is an anime version of the popular manga of the same name produced by the Japanese manga artist ONE. After experiencing wide popularity, the manga was turned to animation by the Madhouse Animation Studio. J.C Staff animation company adapted the second season with Chikara Sakurai helming the production.
One Punch Man garnered multiple honors and the time gap between the two seasons speaks much about its exceptional content. The first season aired from October 2015 until December 2015. The second season was shown from April 2019 until July 2019. It’s been more than two years since fans have been waiting for a hopeful update about the third season. Despite its great popularity, there’s been no news about the upcoming season. Will we ever get One Punch Man Season 3? What’s the current status? Read on to know more.
Will there be One Punch Man Season 3?
Well, for animes the likelihood of the new season depends on elements like availability of the source material, popularity of the anime series and desire for the new season. Let’s have a look at these aspects for One Punch Man.
Is There Enough Source Material For One Punch Man Season 3?
Almost every anime use existing source material which generally is manga, light novel, or mobile game. One Punch Man anime is an adaptation of the manga by Yusuke Murata.
In order to ascertain whether there will be further anime seasons, we need to check, how many manga volumes have been released so far. The next thing we shall evaluate, how many Manga volumes were adapted in crafting the first and second seasons of One Punch Man. We also need to examine how many volumes are ready for the modification.
How many volumes of One Punch Man Manga have been released?
A total of 23 manga volumes of One Punch Man have been released thus far. The current volume 23 was released on Jan 4, 2021. The first season of One Punch Man anime that aired in 2015 adapted the first seven volumes. The second season utilizes volumes 8-16 of the manga series. So, on average, one season of One Punch Man requires roughly 8 manga volumes.
The next season of the anime will start with volume 17. So, seven manga volumes can be used for One Punch Man season 3. Considering that season two used 9 manga volumes, there isn’t enough source material right now. So, like No Game No Life, One Punch Man doesn’t have adequate source material at this time.
Yusuke Murata released three new volumes in 2019, one in 2020 and one in 2021 so far. The publishing speed has reduced but there is no need to panic as the Manga is still running. One Punch Man also contains chapters 113 to 148 that are yet to be published in a tankōbon edition. Shueisha publishes the chapters in Young Jump Web Comics.
Buzz and excitement about One Punch Man Season 3
In choosing the fate of an anime series, the most significant aspect is the desire for the sequel and popularity of the anime. In most cases, sequels are less popular than the initial season. There are situations when there is no buzz or hype for another season. This often happens when the first season fails to provide enough boost to sales. This is what happened to Tokyo Ravens and we never got Tokyo Ravens season 2. We studied numerous sources such as the official website, social media, and google trends to determine the fate of the franchise.
The official One Punch Man Twitter account with more than 170K followers is quite active. The google trends data is fairly positive though the popularity of the show experienced some dip. However, OPM has a strong fanbase backing it.
Coming to One Punch Man, the hype and buzz is really intense. One Punch Man season 3 gets more than 500K monthly searches on google. This pretty much summarizes the buzz.
Will we ever get One Punch man Season 3?
The official Twitter page of One Punch Man thanks the fans for watching Season 2 and requested them to support One Punch Man Season 3 so that the producers can renew it.
OPM is one of the most popular animes out there. It stands with famous names like My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Attack on Titan. Though season 2 wasn’t a large smash as the previous one, but it was enough for the makers to push ahead with a new season. Moreover, fans are anxiously waiting for the following season.
One Punch Man Season 3 Release Date
As there is some shortage of source material, we need to wait for roughly a year before the makers announce the third season. The first and second season has a gap of more than three years, therefore we can assume the same pattern this time around as well.
There are claims floating online that the third season is in production and will debut in 2021. These are are bogus news. One Punch Man is not yet renewed for the third season and neither cancelled. Don’t anticipate ut to release in 2021. As to my forecast, One Punch Man season 3 release date would be late 2022 or early 2023.
One Punch Man Plot & Story
The plot of One Punch Man centres around Saitama, a superhero who hails from City Z. He is touted as the most powerful superhero as he can defeat his opponents with a single punch. He grows weary of this one-punch game and now is on an active search for a challenge that he truly deserves. His sense of ennui overpowers every emotion.
Two associations are set in opposition to each other in One-Punch Man – The Hero Association and The Monster Association who are immersed in constant feats of the battle, rescue, and survival events. Saitama initially not linked with The Hero Association is subsequently admitted into the lowest ranks. This anime is an action-adventure story that exhibits outstanding examples of combat sequences, humour, and drama.
