According to one Reddit user’s theory, every character in My Hero Academia has a Quirk, even those who were born without Quirks, such as Deku and Kazuma. The Quirks in My Hero Academia have a number of mysteries surrounding them, such as how they came to be or how they spread around the world. One of the first statistics regarding Quirks that is explained is that around 80 percent of the world’s population has one. But what if that fact isn’t totally correct, and there are considerably more people with oddities than was previously assumed?
According to a Reddit user, the true percentage of Quirkless individuals may be much lower than the commonly accepted figure of 20 percent (see below). In their post, u/dokotathehuman suggests that many people in the My Hero Academia world have worthless or extremely subtle Quirks that go undiscovered because they are too subtle to be seen. Not every Quirk is as well-known as the ability to blast fire or alter gravity, for example. Mutation Quirks, such as Mashirao Ojiro’s Tail or Mezo Shoji’s Dupli-Arms, are simple to recognise but highly specific, and low-key Mutation Quirks have been demonstrated in the past as well.
For example, Stain’s Quirk, Hero Killer, grants him the ability to immobilise a target simply by tasting their blood, as shown below. If Stain hadn’t been such a vicious individual, he might never have learned that this was his unique power. This is also true for Saiko Intelli, who has a Quirk that increases her intelligence when she drinks tea. What if she didn’t drink tea at all, or if she merely imagined she could concentrate better when she drank her favourite beverage? It is suggested by u/dokotathehuman that many people who think themselves to be Quirkless just haven’t found the perfect settings to activate their quirk, or that their quirk is so inconsequential that it is nearly unnoticeable. Some of the “powers” mentioned were the ability to “always fart discreetly” and the ability to “breathe in space.”
There is a test that can be used to assess whether or not a person has a Quirk. Those born with a Quirk have one joint in their pinky toe, but those born without a Quirk have two joints in their pinky toe. This test, on the other hand, is not completely dependable. Numerous people who are born every day are born with appendages that are either missing or aren’t completely formed.
Surely, even if they are born without a pinky toe, those individuals are still capable of exhibiting Quirks in some way. Furthermore, given the large number of odd quirks that exist, there has to be at least one person who has the quirk of having two joints in their pinky toe, just to be safe.
There’s also the possibility that someone discovers they only have one pinky toe joint but never realises what caused the anomaly and concludes that the test was inaccurate. If you’ve never been into orbit, it can be difficult to figure out whether or not you can breathe in space, according to u/doktathehuman. Doktathehuman thinks that the true number of Quirkless persons is closer to 15 percent, or perhaps as low as 5 percent, given the high likelihood of receiving an exceedingly obscure or ineffective power.
Even more intriguing is the notion that every single character in My Hero Academia has a Quirk, and that no one is genuinely Quirkless in the series. The possibility exists that if your Quirk isn’t powerful enough, it won’t remove your pinky toe joint. In fact, a person’s Quirk only serves to make them somewhat better or different at one specific area, leading them to assume they are Quirkless. In the globe, how many people are just a little bit quicker or stronger than the typical person, but not quite enough to be classified as superhuman?
More research is needed into quirks and how they affect the human population as a result of their widespread occurrence. Regardless of whether or not the theory is correct, it is nevertheless exhilarating to assume that each and every person possesses a unique potential that is just waiting to be found under the appropriate circumstances.
