What Has Been Happening to Ifrit Since Her Rebirth as a Slime?

Rimuru saved Shizue Izawa from the flame spirit Ifrit, a formidable fighter with ties to the past.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime follows the narrative of Rimuru Tempest, a salaryman-turned-slime hero on a mission to create a more tolerant nation of monsters. Many powerful entities have joined Rimuru’s side, and he is a selfless optimist and a wonderful friend to everyone. Even yet, he was unable to contain the ferocious Ifrit.

First, Rimuru came face-to-face with the masked hero, a formidable young lady called Shizue Izawa, who had escaped from WWII-era Japan. Ifrit’s host, she was both a gallant hero and a caring friend, but her time was running out. Rimuru Tempest had the task of dealing with the savage Ifrit and then figuring out what to do with the remaining loose end.

During Rimuru & The Adventurers’ Battle Against Ifrit

Fire spirit Ifrit was already dwelling inside Shizue Izawa, the masked hero, when Rimuru arrived in his new realm. Leon Cromwell called Shizue as an Otherworlder from Japan and placed Ifrit inside her, and at first, Shizue was inconsolable because of the pain.

It was impossible to control Ifrit, and Shizue screamed in terror when Ifrit killed the only friend she had at the moment. Instead than fighting Cromwell in order to have Ifrit taken from Shizue’s body, Shizue went her own path. During that time, Shizue met and learned from the current masked Hero, and learned how to control the Ifrit spirit she had inside of her, as well.

When Shizue met Rimuru in the main plot of Reincarnated as a Slime, she was losing control of Ifrit once more, and by the time Rimuru met her during the main events, she was ready to break free. In front of Rimuru and Eren, Ifrit took control of Shizue’s body and summoned its flames, setting off a struggle that would last for hours. Using the ice magic of Eren, Rimuru was able to fight back against Ifrit and his summoned clones.

Veldora’s own soul intimidated Even the proud and stubborn Ifrit, and Ifrit was tamed at last. Within a short period of time, Shizue said her final goodbyes to Rimuru and let him take her in. Rimuru had Ifrit, but he was much less willing to use it than Shizue had been.

Ifrit’s Substantial Contribution to the Anime

Rimuru’s body was able to confine Ifrit, putting a halt to the blazing rampage of the demon. However, Rimuru had no immediate plans to exploit Ifrit’s strength as his own. In reality, he had just absorbed Ifrit in order to get rid of it, not to use it in any way. It was as if Rimuru was only acting as Ifrit’s living jail cell, as he already had too many powers of his own to make use of Ifrit’s. Ifrit appeared in Reincarnated as a Slime only in comic relief for a period.
Because Ifrit had given up on the possibility of escaping, it began playing shogi and commenting on Rimuru’s daily existence with Veldora. Rimuru has a knack of making foes into comrades, or at least removing their fighting spirit.

As a result of Rimuru’s desire to deal with Hinata Sakaguchi’s overwhelming might, Ifrit appeared briefly during Rimuru’s combat with the knight commander, when Rimuru borrowed Ifrit’s power. However, Rimuru expelled Ifrit from his body before moving on to further tactics in this combat, despite Ifrit’s appearance in bodily form. As a True Demon Lord, Rimuru still had very few uses for Ifrit. When Rimuru remade Veldora into a humanoid, he neglected to do the same for Ifrit.

It’s clear that Ifrit won’t play a significant role in Rimuru’s mission so far, and it’s mostly just an artefact from another time period. Ifrit’s journey is far from over, and it’s feasible, if not probable, that he’ll be resurrected at some point and join Rimuru as an ally. Ifrit is also a symbol of the crime done against Shizue by Leon Cromwell, which is the root of Rimuru’s long-simmering animosity for Cromwell.

Both Rimuru and Leon are now Octogram members, and it’s possible that they’ll have a falling out over Leon’s crimes and Ifrit’s involvement in them. Even if Ifrit is currently in prison, its influence on the world continues to be felt.
