Jujutsu Kaisen’s bromance between Todo and Itadori grows swiftly, thanks to excellent writing tactics. Following Yuji Itadori’s journey into the supernatural after he accidently finds a cursed artefact, Jujutsu Kaisen is an adaptation of popular manga series of the same name. Curses, demonic monsters formed by bad human emotion, are what he trains to battle at the Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu Technical High School.
The anime series, which premiered in 2020 to acclaim, was hailed as a masterpiece of shonen fiction. For many people, the relationship between Jujutsu sorcerer Aoi Todo and Yuji was a highlight of the series. Aoi, a student at Kyoto Jujutsu High School, was introduced as an antagonist during an interschool competition. When Aoi appears, he attacks Megumi Fushiguro, a friend of Yuji’s. His appearance is greeted with trepidation by Yuji’s older classmates.
Yuji’s first meeting with him also begins with a fight. The two, after a bumpy start, become closest friends and then brothers in the space of a single battle after this. In spite of its rapidity, the evolution of their relationship works because to some brilliant strategies used in writing.
Their bromance may be traced back as far as the second episode, even though they don’t meet until Episode 14.
Aoi’s impression of other boys is greatly influenced by their “ideal kind” of women, which is typical of their high school age. During Aoi’s first few moments in the anime, he questions Megumi about the type of women he is attracted to and, when he is not satisfied with the response, proceeds to beat him up.
In another moment, a character considers their dream lady to be an integral part of themselves.
By comparing himself to “Jennifer Lawrence,” Yuji introduces himself to the principal of his school, Masamichi Yaga. The event is staged for laughs, and one might conclude that it is nothing more than a prank for the foreseeable future. Even before they have a scene together, there is a link that binds Yuji and Aoi. Aoi questions Yuji about his ideal type during the interschool tournament in Episode 15, and viewers aren’t shocked.
In Episode 2, Yuji’s response was already established, so when he repeats it now, Aoi’s reaction makes sense. Because Aoi is so reliant on Yuji’s response to judge whether or not they can be friends, he is overjoyed and summons his vivid imagination. It cuts to a vision of him and Yuji going to junior high together.
The fictitious flashback is meticulously researched; it’s humorous, but it also invokes a classic love confession subplot, making the audience nostalgic for their youth. Aoi’s hallucination is clearly shown to the audience before the series returns to the present. His conflict with Yuji becomes a lesson for Aoi, who is older and more experienced.
Then, high-ranking Curses begin to invade.
As a result of Yuji and Aoi’s shared enemy, their relationship grows stronger. Aoi pushes Yuji to use the principles he acquired during their previous encounter as they take on Hanami, a special-grade Curse. They take over the war against evil after Yuji learns Aoi’s special move to assist him improve his own abilities. Aoi frequently refers to Yuji as “my best friend” throughout their scenes, which is a term he used in his junior high fantasy. After a moment of confusion, Yuji continues to respond to Aoi in the same way that he did before the war began.
They provide some lighthearted reprieve from the otherwise stressful situation, and they make sense because both people are enraged at the same time. Most of their relationship development takes place in this sequence, and at the end, they are both moving in harmony and calling each other “my brother,” expressing their affection for each other.
Aoi continues to show Yuji the same level of devotion even after the conflict is over.
While Yuji maintains his non-delusional demeanour, he confesses he was merely caught up in the moment. Jujutsu Kaisen cleverly keeps itself from speeding their relationship by allowing him to ponder on the speed of their friendship and withdraw from it. Jujutsu Kaisen leaves viewers eager for greater, long-term, development of these soul mates with the promise of more content.
