Yuji’s Early School Days Are Revealed in a Jujutsu Kaisen Flashback

With a flashback in the latest episode, Jujutsu Kaisen gave us a deeper look at Yuji Itadori’s junior high school days! Read on to find out more! During our first encounter with Yuji at the start of the series, there was a great deal of ambiguity about his background.

He was not particularly connected with any clubs, with the exception of a passing interest in the Occult Club, into which he was inadvertently admitted by default. He didn’t have many acquaintances, and after his grandfather’s death, he had no family to speak of. Because of this, seeing a new insight into his background is so eye-opening and surprising.

Now that Yuji and the others have officially entered colonies and begun their participation in the Culling Game, there have already been a number of severe clashes amongst the players on both sides. However, a fascinating seed had been sown about Yuji’s past when another opponent remembered him from middle school as a former teammate.

As the storey progresses, the next part delves even further into Yuji’s background, providing us with our finest look yet at the dismal and lifeless person he used to be in his previous life. Ren Amai’s perspective is revealed in a flashback in Chapter 163 of the series, which indicates that he has always felt awful about cooperating with the bullies rather than getting involved.

This flashback then tells how he first came across Yuji in the previous chapter, as the bullies Ren was hanging out with are eventually confronted by Yuji himself. When Yuji comes, he maintains a deafening silence and immediately dispatches the bullies with the same effortless strength that he has shown throughout the series.
Nonetheless, when the memory draws to a close, Ren looks Yuji straight in the eyes and appears to be terrified.

This glimpse into Yuji’s history demonstrates exactly how much he has evolved since enrolling at Jujutsu Tech.
While he was formerly the type of person who could take down bullies and stand up for the vulnerable, the focused look on his face suggests that kind of underlying hidden darkness that would help flesh out the kind of fighter he is now in the present day. However, it also serves to highlight how little we actually know about his true personality.

I’m curious to know what you think of this glimpse back into Yuji’s background. It makes you more intrigued about why he is the way he is, don’t you think? In the comments, share your thoughts on the subject.
